Wildfires began burning in numerous counties across the entire state of California on October 9th.  These fires have prompted mass evacuations, over 190,000 acres and 1,500 structures have been burned.  Key infrastructure is threatened as strong winds continue to fuel the fast moving fires.  As many as 18 fires have burned in nine counties, and an estimated 20,000 people have been evacuated.

Hurricane Maria is a powerful category 5 storm that made landfall Monday (September 19th) night with a direct impact on the island of Dominica in the Caribbean / West Indies causing significant damage to structures. A M 8.1 offshore Chiapas Mexico occurred at 2017-09-08 04:49:21 UT. This was an intermediate depth earthquake with an estimated source depth of approximately 70 km. This was the largest of 9 earthquakes M7.0 and larger within 250 km in the past century. The largest reported shaking by USGS Did you feel it? was MMI VIII (Moderate-Heavy Shaking) roughly 200 km from the epicenter. NASA’s Earth Science Disaster Response Team program is actively engaged in interagency coordination activities surrounding Hurricane Irma’s impacts and longer-term recovery. Following extended high July temperatures and dry conditions along the coast of Montenegro and strong winds, wildfires spread across the Lustica peninsula. Several days of heavy rainfall led to widespread flooding in the eastern Venezuela states of Delta Amacuro, Boliver, and Merida. Residential areas along the Orinoco and Caroni Rivers were flooded. An estimated 15,000 people were affected by the flooding , with hundreds evacuated from impacted areas.
