Live event on Instagram
Astronaut Mae Jemison is hosting a live discussion on social media at 2 p.m. ET, Friday June 5 for World Environment Day. Joining her is Dan Irwin, global program manager of the Capacity Building's SERVIR program and with NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center. A joint initiative between NASA and the U.S. Agency for International Development, SERVIR partners with leading regional organizations around the world to help developing countries use Earth-observing data to manage environmental risks and land use.
Jemison is the first African-American woman in space. The June 5 event is billed as "a live discussion with a few special guests who are making unique, powerful contributions to sustaining the Earth's environment worldwide through understanding, space technologies, outreach to communities in East Africa, astronomy, inclusion, capacity building and outspoken advocacy."
The event will be live streamed on Jemison's Instagram page.
