Background
Suzanne Monthie is an experienced Sr. Instructional Designer who joined the NASA ARSET team in February 2023. Sue collaborates with team members and subject matter expert instructors to create highly engaging, effective, and inclusive learning experiences that are backed by cognitive science research.
With over 20 years of experience in the education field, Sue has worked as a high school science and computer science teacher, curriculum developer, technology trainer, adjunct professor, and instructional designer. She has designed and facilitated a variety of instructional experiences, including asynchronous and synchronous online, blended, and face-to-face courses. Sue draws on her engineering and education backgrounds to synthesize and apply theory, best practices, and innovations in learner-centered instructional design, including ADDIE, backward design, educational technologies, digital accessibility, active learning, and assessment. She is committed to supporting instructors by developing ID processes and instructor resources that help them succeed.
Prior to joining NASA, Sue worked as a Sr. Instructional Designer at Johns Hopkins University, and began her career as a digital designer at a DOD contractor. She holds a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from Widener University and a master of arts in instructional systems design from University of Maryland Baltimore County.
