Background
Lori Schultz serves as an Associate Program Manager for NASA’s Earth Applied Sciences Disasters Program area. Currently, she is a research physical scientist in the Earth Science Branch at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center located in Huntsville, AL.
Schultz first supported the Disasters program as part of a funded research proposal that explored how to use satellite imagery to support the National Weather Service’s (NWS) damage assessments during storm surveys. Later, she moved into event support, including work on events such as Superstorm Sandy in 2012 and the Gorkha earthquake that devastated Nepal in 2015.
Prior to joining NASA in 2020, Schultz spent over ten years as both a research scientist and associate at the University of Alabama in Huntsville’s Earth System Science Center. Her work has centered on developing and improving remote sensing applications and engaging stakeholder communities to implement, train, and transition those tools into multiple decision support systems.
Schultz received her B.S. in Physics with minors in mathematics and photography in May 2006 from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee, and her M.S. in Atmospheric Science from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in Dec. 2008.
